Ballet San Antonio brings ballet’s favorite comedy, Coppelia, to the Majestic Theater.

San Antonio, TX: Ballet San Antonio will be bringing ballet’s all-time favorite comedy, Coppelia, to the stage of the historic Majestic Theater. With two performances on March 20 & 21, 2010, this ballet is sure to delight San Antonio families.

For 25 years, Ballet San Antonio has brought artistic excellence to the River City Community through its productions including The Nutcracker and Off Center. Audiences have raved about BSA’s stellar additions to San Antonio’s art festival, Luminaria. But the dancers all agree that some of their favorite audiences are San Antonio kids.

Throughout the years, BSA has reached thousands of children through outreach programs such as Learning That Moves You and student performances of The Nutcracker. Now, for their silver anniversary, BSA brings San Antonio children and their families a special treat in the charming ballet, Coppelia.

Coppelia is such a fun ballet,” comments Noah Larson, BSA dancer playing the lead character role of Dr. Coppelius. “It’s fun to dance, but I think it’s also fun to watch—you have flirting, fights, confusion, and emotional mayhem. You can be sure it will elicit giggles from your children, but you might be surprised to find yourself in stitches as well! You’ll find, however, that it can also be very touching and even challenging at times. Look at the characters: Dr. Coppelius is a human creator who struggles with the fact that he will never be able to create human life; Franz is a young man entranced by an image of a girl who isn’t real; and the heroine, Swanhilda, is a young woman who disregards her anger in order to forgive and protect the man she loves. It’s a story that resonates with real life in a charming, comedic fashion that lends itself perfectly to a family outing in downtown San Antonio.”

There are opportunities for all to come. [Incentives]. All can enjoy a quality production of San Antonio’s own professional talent.

The mission of Ballet San Antonio, a professional ballet company, is to share the splendor of dance through diverse artistic performances and outreach programs that reflect, promote, and enrich the cultural heritage of our South Texas community. We hold an uncompromising commitment to continually attract and nurture exceptional professional dancers, create distinctive performances, and make dance accessible to the widest possible audiences through partnerships with local organizations.
