I was walking alone across the base on my way to the Post Exchange. The PX, as we called it, is like a miniature Wal-Mart where soldiers can buy groceries, magazines, books, military supplies, or whatever else they may need while deployed. It was about 2 miles across the base from my trailer, and most of us walked there taking the most direct route.
